About Link Placement:
When you participate in an affiliate program like this or the
other many programs available - it's all about link placement.
The very best place to put
your link is either at the top of, or sprinkled
around your "Adoptable Pets" page. That's where people "actually go".
Grocery stores always put the milk and bread in the back of
the store so you have to walk through all the other yummy
stuff in the store. You will want people to see the
link on the way to looking at the beautiful adoptables. I don't know how many dozens of hours I
have spent looking at the Boston Terrier rescue websites just
to see all the little faces of my favorite breed - not to
adopt. So, why not get some donations from people like
me?
The next best place is a page
entitled "Shopping". A "shopping" page will get a
lot more visitors than a "fundraising page".
The worst place to put your links: On your
"Fundraising" or "How you Can Help" or "Supporters"
pages. Tip: If you have a fundraising page for
shopping - call it "Shopping".
Turn your new link into an
INSTANT FUNDRAISER
You will also want to send out
an announcement about the new link. A short email
telling people about what cool things we have at Helping
Udders and that 10-50% of every purchase goes to your rescues
will get the ball rolling. I have one very savvy rescue
that sends out an announcement acknowledging every check I
send. That also causes more sales and more donations.
You will also want to put the
word out on your Yahoo Groups too. That causes a lot of
traffic from people you don't even know.
